BASAO Teahouse Panji
A living room for the city that reinterprets Fujian tea culture.
Located in Xiamen, Fujian, BASAO Panji marks the third collaboration between BASAO and designers Building
Narrative. The teahouse explores the dualities between traditional and contemporary tea culture at the urban, interior and furniture scales.
In an article in by Design Anthology, Philip Annetta writes, “The teahouse incorporates tradition and theatre by splitting the tea bar into two sections — one for the usual BASAO teas and a second for the local gong fu-style tea. ‘Gong fu is traditionally served by a sommelier over multiple rounds, and we felt this had the potential to be a more intimate experience,’ Cheng explains. ‘Eventually, the entire back portion of the shop was dedicated to gong fu tea, with the smaller tea bar as a performance stage.’”
Basao Panji has also been published on numerous platforms including Dezeen China and Design Boom.
