Craft, materiality and the element of time are placed on display at Green Ginkgo Tea III. The shop is the studio’s third iteration for Green Ginkgo Tea. Located in Pacific Place, Hong Kong, the tea bar displays curated teaware, leaves and hand-brewed tea in a compact 18 square meters.
Rich red pigment in the birchwood walls and shelves are achieved by using Kakishibu dye, a Japanese technique utilizing unripe and fermented persimmons traditionally applied to textile and paper. As the dye oxidizes, the pigment evolves from pink to deep wine red; a suitable metaphor for tea where seasons, process and time are critical to its flavor profile. A sweeping curved plywood display wall offers a sense of enclosure while unifying the width of the tea shop. This wide frontage was critical to afford the shop a strong presence along its mall atrium frontage.
